Rules at Recess?
University of Nebraska researchers believe too many kids stand around during recess. They think kids would be more active if teachers told them what to do. They say this would increase kids' activity and keep them healthy. Others say kids should be allowed to do what they want during recess. Should there be rules at recess? (from Scholastic News, January 26, 2009 edition)

I think teachers should not be able to tell kids what to do at recess because what will happen if we have some sickness and you have to run. Then if you don't want to be with someone that gets you in trouble there is nothing you could do about it. What if you see your friend in another class then you will wont to go play with them. Then if you have to ply kickball but you want to play tether ball.

I believe that kid should be able to do as they please during recess because it is their time to do what they like. If you are told to do something then it feels like your still doing work on your time to play and what if you are not the best spots player and the teachers make you play then your not having fun at all.1
I think it is bad idea because i don't like being told what to do at recess and I want to be free and hangout with friends and have fun. I don't want to be playing soccer because my teacher told me to, I want to play soccer if I want to.

I think it would be better if we did not have that rule at recess have it because we are suppose to have time away from school for a few and it is good to interact with other kids

I think that there shouldn't be rules at recess because it is our time to have fun at school.18
I think there shouldn't be rules at recess because this is the student's free time. A time to do what they want. Recess is a short fun break from learning, who wants to be bossed around during recess?

I think that recess is a time for kids to choose what they do. If they want to sit around then they should be able to.24
I don't think there should be THAT rule at recess but there should be rules. I don't think there should be that rule because people should be able to do what ever they want at recess.I mean what if you just wanted to relax and not be so active and run around. Thats what I think!!!

Yes. Teachers should have rules at recess because kids could get hurt doing something but they should also let kids do what they want, as long as its not against the rules.

No way! I do not think there should be rules at recess because you should be able to do what you want. Maybe some of those kids who are just standing at recess are tierd or don't feel well. And what kind of rules would there be something like "you can't stop playing at recess"? I think kids should do what they want at recess.

I think that at recess there should be supervisors to make sure kids don't get hurt but the rule shouldn't be so strict.
